If you are a non-EU/non-EEA/non-Swiss citizen and want to freelance in liberal professions in Germany, then you need to apply this visa. This visa is granted for 3 month(s) and can be converted into a residence permit while your visa is valid. The resident permit can be upto 3 years. After 3 years spent with a residence permit for freelancing, you may get a settlement permit. This can happen only if you decide setting-up a retail or manual trade business, since then.

Upon arrival, your freelance activity must be registered with the tax office.

Liberal ‘freelance’ professions in Germany, according to EStG §18, are self-employment jobs in the following fields: Healthcare, Law, Tax and business counseling, Scientific/technical.Linguistic and information-transmitting.

NOTE: Citizens of Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, United States of America and South Korea can apply for a freelance visa upon their arrival in Germany.
